May I see some pictures of Accipiter gularis being used in falconry, please?
Thanks.
Hi Bobby,
I am sorry that I didn’t check this sub-forum for a while.
You can see Japanese sparrow hawks in this page.
http://www.weblio.jp/content/%E3%83%8F%E3%82%A4%E3%82%BF%E3%82%AB
But less sparrow hawks are flown so I can’t find any pictures of the bird flown by falconers.
ATB,
Yoji.

Okay, let me search them. Perhaps, I've seen some of those.

funny thing is, Japanese Sparrowhawk is more often used by Chinese falconers than falconers from other countries. They are flown like sparrowhawks using the "bian" (hand throw) style with thread attached (xian and zai-wo-zi). Just search Japanese Sparrowhawk on the forum and you will find a couple threads posted by Chinese falconers. the females are called "bai-xiong" while males are called "song-zi". here is an example http://www.falconryforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=47427

I guess it's good to learn about it. Why is it so?
Looking at those threads in IFF, I guess more males are being used than females.
Thanks for sharing.
