what is the word on car airfresheners ...a few years ago I heard they were dangerous to birds because of the oils used to give them their fragrance...since then I no longer use anything like that ...the down sside is the car now stinks of bird, rabbit, dog and my stale farts... anybody got more insight on the airfreshener thing....or can recomend something safe....
also I dont know how many ppl know about this prob and it may save somebodies bird...

"Shake and vac" works wonders on carpets.
This is where most of the odours will be trapped

Hunterpaul is right, fragrances can be dangerous. But the risks are very, very small. I work for a fragrance manufacturer and some of our raw materials are banned for certain customers. For example The Body Shop must not be supplied with any material containing polycyclic musks (synthetic musk compounds), as they have been proven to be bioaccumulative and toxic.
Other fragrance compounds can include pinine and limonene which react with ozone (in the atmosphere) to produce formaldehyde which is a carcinogen. Limonene, linalool, benzyl alcohol and camphor can cause respiratory disturbances and these are used in many fragrances.
However, the chances of being affected are tiny, and the amount of exposure needed to cause harmful effects is far more than you could ever get from an air freshener. Cigarette smoke, dust, pollen and mold are more harmful.
If you are worried then don't use them, some people (and I assume birds) are far more chemically sensitive than others. Try orange or lemon peel, cloves, cinnamon etc. to make your car smell better without chemicals.
Personally I don't think an air freshener in your car will do much harm......in fact I think your bird could be in more danger from your trumps!!!
P.S. Shake n Vac is just a carpet fragrance (i.e. chemical based)
Hope this helps.

best thing for car smells is a thing we have at work, it basically fills the car with a thick smoke, leave for an hourwith the fans running and in the recirculate mode .. hey presto it deodorises the car, we use it when valeting or for getting rid of the stink when someone smokes in a car .. either a local valeter will do it for you or iyl do it when you come up leeds way

for goodness sake ther is something special about the aroma of a falconer/ austringers car, after a while you get used to the smell of mutes after a bit longer you actually enjoy it:shock:. A few years ago a well celebrated falconer/gamehawker/ author got into my recently acquired rangie and said something to the words of "jeez jay how loong have you had it , already smells good" then a couple of seconds later added" why is it that all falconers cars smell so c**p" LOL < BTW > best air freshener of all is the window!

pick some fresh stuff that you like the smell of and tie into a little bundle and hang that off your mirror. I dunno...lavender if you like it...garlic if your french...a sausage if your german... my parents use lavender and it lasts for ages. I dont go in their car now as I dont like the f*#cking stuff...but each to their own.

(no offence intended to anyone french or german - or my parents )

apparently lavender has a sleepy affect on people ...so send them on a nice long journey and that inheritance could be just around the corner:twisted:
tried it with a pair of old nickers but the flies....
