I've got a couple of bells that seem to have lost their tone. I think I remember seeing a thread about boiling bells them to get their tone back. Am I going mad or can anyone help me?.....please.

i would have thought it was the best option . im told that it the bels are note soldered but braxed then you can heat them with a blow torch to change the tonw.
all the best with it and please let me know how you get on .

Yes you did remember correctly, it was posted by Jack Merlin or Derry Argue and he suggested doing this as it gets rid of all the old chick yolk and dirt and improves them.

But for more info you will need to speak to our resident Offical Bell Maker, Andy Peel.

I think Andy recomends heating his bells on the gas ring until it glows cherry red...then just leave on the concrete to cool off....brings back the original tone.....he suggested doing this after a year or so of use :)

Goose i dont know if Noble uses silver soldier or normal soldier. If using silver soldier you can heat them over your gas cooker, what till they go a very dull red in colour. Leave them on the ground then try them, if the tone quality is not there heat them again till cherry red. Just make sure you dont over heat them as the joint may melt before the bell gets to temperature.
If all else fails buy my bells next time and you want have this problem LOL !!!!!!!!!!!
