Thought I would try my hand at making my own glove - turned out pretty good but the leather seemed a bit stiff (and Phillip Glasier's pattern was a bit too big). I want to try again, but I'm wondering what kind of leather is the bestto use? Also if anyone has tips about the best way to make them or patterns that would be awsome.

be carefull when saying buck skin because alot of people sell buckskin but this is also a process used to give it the feel of suede so make sure the buck means deer

Glaisier mentions the same thing - that real buckskin is hard to find and what you get might not actually be what you're looking for. So in telling a leather seller what I want, it's deer skin buckskin? Glasier also mentions chrome tanning to be the better choice - do you know anything about this?

kangaroo leather used a glove is one of the best gloves you can get! I wouldnt handle a euro with a ben long double, but I'd happily walk around with one for hours on the kangaroo glove! Its brill! U feel the grip but not the talons. Its wierd you can feel whats going on but not much pain. Better for the falcons and small birds I guess, but for anybird once you are used to glove. Its so wierd! But definatly brill!

If anyone is after buying leather for gloves, the best i find in the North West is Abbey Saddlery you can buy your cheap swivels there also. The ones which everyone sells for £3 and they only cost 11p each. You have to say your a buissness and you can go down and have a look. I bought a full Deer skin for £45 which was excellent. They also sell off cuts of all different skins they have a warehouse out back for seconds.
The web page is www.abbeysaddlery.co.uk if this helps any one.
Please not these swivels are **** to tie your birds to as they are made of white metal once the chrome goes then the material is open to the elements, but they are good for in the field as a throw away swivel. I use them in the field as i am fed up with losing my stainless steel ones.
I've added a picture of what i have bought from there.
I paid £9.20 for 1000 eyelets for my spars
£18 for 1000 eyelets for my harrises.
Why traders try and make so much profit on these items god knows.
Once you get your code off them you can order by mail.
Excellent service and excellent prices,

Hi, I have just made a glove out of elk hide and it is stunning. More expensive then deer but well worth the pennies as really strong and so soft like not wearing a glove. Jakki
