View Full Version : Perch placement
Well, i think its tiem to let rolf free aroudn the avairy, becauses hes going mental ebing tethered and having nothing to see but 3 and a half walls. I was thinking where would be teh best places to put perches. i was thinkign one long perch at the frotn and one at the back. should i maybe make a smaller, lower one in the middle or so? also how far back from the bars should i put the perch at teh front, and far back from the back of the avairy.
cheers

I would say be imaginative with the perches, as long as they have a good covering to help prevent bumblefoot. have somewhere for her to sit in sun (or rain as they so often do) and somewhere out of the wind above frost level for sleeping (usually in a top corner). also you want to put them far enough away from walls to save relentless **** cleaning lol.

when i free lofted my harris sean i had one perch in the corner going from the back to the side of the mews & about 3 ft from the roof so she was nice & high, also a couple going the entire width near the front of the mews. That way they have plenty to jump around on-my perch's were old pine branches about 4inch round & never had foot problems & was with a female harris over 2Ib in weight so your male should be ok

i would put a perch near the back because of winter and one at the front because of summer plus it can look out at you and family...

perch high in the corner as said with a sheet of pvc white with eyelits, tray at the bottom white guttering does throw a bit of news paper in it we drop of sand keeps paper blowing away easy cleaned
Sean just remember dont put the perches too close to the walls or you will have a lot of cleaning to do!!

I use one high up at the back, with a piece of ply a bit in front at one end, so bird can hop along and hide behind the ply for shelter. Hang builders plastic well stapled down the back wall its easy to clean. One across the front for a nice view. I then use a milk crate with astro on it in the middle as a nice, easy clean feed perch. Just pull it out an swap for a washed one. I then throw in a selection of Hawk safe balls and a piece cut off a broom handle which he loves to play with best.
