right there is a discusson going on in another forum i belong to and someone has said that if you quote"Anyone caught setting a bird of prey on a crow or any member of the corvid family can be prosecuted."
is this true??? i thought falconers could hunt crows/rooks do you need any special licence to do so

officially a licence will now be needed to fly at rooks but crows maggie's and other corvids are still classified as pest and can be hunted year round

They are on the general licence, download the form http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/vertebrates/gen-licence.htm , the form required is WLF18. Then carry this form with you whilst out hawking - combined with a letter of consent from the landowner. As advise by the BFC.

No I think it is also needed for NI. It is required to hunt species such as Blackbird, Thrush, Lark, Pipit etc. Limited to a total of 50 head per season.
i can understand larks and blackbirds, but rooks? there way way to much of them. and there a pain in the arse unliek the other birds in the list

You are now confusing 2 different licences. One is called the General licence - this governs pest species. The other mentioned by Simon is called the quarry licence - this governs protected birds i.e songbirds etc.

One thing that needs remembering is that although pest species are on a general licence, the reason you are hunting them must come in line with the conditions of that general licence.
If it does not then technically you would need a specific licence even for a pest species there have been prosectution by the RSPB where the conditions have not been met!

I HATE ROOKS.
They give my buzzard a real hard time. I would ring every one of their ****ing necks, They are that fierce they even bash into branches trying to chase him away. By the way I would ring every one of their ****ing necks.
