Has there ever been a UK raptor breeders club? If so what were it's aims and objectives, if not what would breeders like to see as it's mandate and or membership requirements. Would any of it's aims and objectives extend to who they sell to and also publishing a newsletter on methods and means of breeding?
Are there breeders clubs'societies in other countries if so can our foreign friends post up any info.
WARNING: If this thread goes off from topic, either with rubbish talked about 'backyards breeding', all breeders are pirates, or all escaped HH are the fault of breeders or about paperwork not being filled in or ANYTHING OTHER than a sensible discussion about how to form/re-start a society then I want the posts deleted

hi ben
there is a professional breeding association but you have to make your living from breeding to be a member, from all accounts it didnt work, but i have thought about something like this but didnt get any interest at all

Yes the RBA was once quiet a big club and we held meetings all over the place. It suddenly went downhill and because most of the Committee wanted to stand down and there was no one to step into the breach it was wound up. I did try to keep it running but by the time I found out it was going to close down it was too late
We used to have some good meetings and the AGM's were good fun and we had some good birds in the breeding projects.

It was a National Club so it really didn't have a base as such but at one time the Membership Secretary was in Ludlow, I think, I would have to look back through old files to confirm this. We used to hold the AGM's at The Hawk Conservancy, The Cotswold Falconry Centre, Morton in the Marsh or NBPC when Philip Glasier was still alive. It was a real shame it closed down

Terry,
How much work would it take to start it back up? Do you have any of the old paperwork etc etc?

I don't have any of the paperwork for the RBA it is all probably long gone by now but you could try speaking to Paul Beecroft he is a member on here I think his user name is Taf-UK or something like that. I am almost sure he was on the Committee at the time it shut down.

Price setting is illegal i am afraid - its against competition law and is policed rather strictly.
As far as i am aware - theres not much you can do regarding the price that someone wants to sell somehting - whether that be Primark selling jeans for a quid - or someone selling a Harris for a quid (if they still go for as much as that!)
There was an attempt in the early 90s (i think) to set up the Guild of Falconry Professional for all people who made a living from falconry - breeders, equipmant makes, centres etc etc. As far as i know it just died a death. I went to the initial meeting - but never really heard much else.

well i dont do primark as in birds if you know what i mean . , nothing against primark:D. would be nice if some thing could be done, but have guys from across the board not just pro breeders that do it for a living
