small or large tubular heater's that can be protected as they get hot and could burn the birds feet if you let the bird get close enough. I have a 5/4ft one in my mews and it works a treat!

when it comes to heating for the bird. i have worked for a few one person who has used them but all of my time is scotland l never used anything. One thing i make sure is that my birds are keeped out of a cold wind and that no rain can get to them. if my birds do happen to get wet (when out flying) through the winter i never shut them up at nigt cold i always make sure the are dry. If you are going to use a heater then it is up to you just make sure that you bird can't get to it.

anyone ever used a dull emitter with heat lamp like the kind they use in brooding pens, this could be hung above the roosting perch? Just an idea..

SO LONG AS SHE CAN GET ABOVE THE FROST LEVEL, OFF THE GROUND SHE WILL BE OK. IVE SEEN HARRIS HAWKS BEING KEPT IN THE FAR NORTH OF SCOTLAND IN REMOTE AREAS AND THEY MANAGE OK. THEY WERE FREE LOFTED AS THEY SHOULD BE.
MY BIRD IS FREE LOFTED AND SHE HAS WHAT I CALL A NIGHT PERCH. BASICALLY THIS IS THE HIGHEST PERCH IN THE AVAIRY AND IS ENCLOSED WITH A BOARD WHICH PROTECTS HER FROM THE WIND AT NIGHT. I ALSO HAVE A CERAMIC HEAT LAMP WHICH IS PLACED ABOVE HER HEED. THIS IS ONLY PUT ON DURING THE COLDEST WEATHER IE: BELOW FREEZING. THE BOARD WHICH I TALKED ABOUT KEEPS THE HEAT IN THE AREA OF THE NIGHT PERCH.
