Hello guys,

I’m looking to establish some breeding pairs of kestrels with a friend (we truly like these birds). We already have pairs of American Kestrels and I’m flying a male Common Kestrel that could become a breeder in the future (his getting an interesting pitch and will improve when the weather gives us a break...almost ready to bagged quail).

Well, having this 2 species we are looking for something different to add to our group of breeders and therefore I would like to ask if you guys know someone that is breeding Rock Kestrels in the UK (formerly a subspecies of tinnunculus so could be hard to find…see the photo) or any other kestrel species that could be added to your mews (Lesser Kestrels don’t appeal to us).

Adding to the Rock Kestrel we could also be interested in Greater Kestrels (prices please) and in Common Kestrels that prove to be bigger than ours (our Females average 200grs).

We are from Portugal but we would go and collect the birds and enjoy the country. You can believe we are no time wasters…just kestrel freak!

Hope someone could help me,
Regards
Pedro Afonso

Pedro, good luck with your project !! i am a very seriously fan of all the kestrel-falcons species.

The most of the mexican falconers said that i am a whole crazy by my excesive infatuation with the Ks (because of the very ample number of the native falcons species for to chose here appart of the native AKs), but for me, the kestrels ever are in the very top of my favourite list of the falcons species.

Saludos y buena suerte en tu proyecto de cría de halcones-cernícalos !! 8)

Thanks Jerkin, its not big project, just something that we would like to do...we truly like small falcons!

Of all the Kestrels, AKs are probably the best and the more useful in falconry setups but even common kestrels are being hunted in our neighbour country - Spain - with some consistency now...I’m just looking for something a little different to breed in one of your empty mews!

I hope someone could post...I've been told one could find almost any species in the UK!

My regards
Pedro
