Going fine mate she has been flying free for the past 12 days she has not been enterd yet due to the fact she has to go the vets next tuesday and have her front right inner toe off as she broke her tallon off the bone bateing when i first got her so she can not retract her toe and the peice of bone that is still attached to her tendon is to small to pin back on. She still has one hell of a grip with this foot. The down side is that I will not be able to do any hunting with her until the end of Dec 05. Have you had or known anyone who has flew a BOP with a toe missing if so how did they perform.

sorry to hear that mate, u must've been guttted when that happened, never heard of something like that happening off a bate altho a friend has a bird who had a squirrel bite, it's paralised one toe and the talon on it now grows upwards and she's a fantastic hunter, scared of nothing, harris's are very smart adaptable birds and i'm sure she'll more than compensate for the loss of the toe in time mate.

Thanks for that mate thats made me feel a lot better about the situation, Yes I was gutted when it happend but like you say Harris`s are very adabtable and she has just took it in her stride. Feeding her up a bit now ready for her operation, she has to have her foot bound to a small ball for a week and a half but she has to have the dressing changed twice during this time and every time this gets done she needs to be put to sleep so this is worrying me. All this along with me moving house is getting very stressfull. I will let you know how she is getting on, cheers

hope you have fun with your harris, a toe shouldn't affect her much, we flew a ferruginouse who had a toe bittten off by a squirrel (previouse owner) but he was great for displays and is currently in breeding.

I think a ferru would be fine with a leg off never mind a toe lol:rolleyes: hope your HH if ok mate, just make sure its wound is kept spotless so no infection get in it..

Took her to the vets last night the vets well made up with her says i can start light training her this weekend and i might be able to start working her sooner rather than later. This is good news as she is starting to get bored due to being stuck in the garage. The grip in her foot is getting stronger every day and i carnt wait to get her out flying at rabbits ( hopefully the start of Dec)

I know mate i will have to control myself, i just hate the fact that the hunting season is here and all i can do is look out of the window at it. I can go out with a few of the lads but its not the same as watching your own bird fly.

Aye.. can appreciate that it's difficult mate, would hate to be in that situation myself. a friend of mine had his 7yr old harris break a toe last friday on a rabbit, that's now out of commission till end of december and understandably he's well pi**ed off. feel free to head down this way and i'll take you out hunting with me or i'll head up your way if that's better mate...do you work any ferrets or a dog with your harris?

just me and my bird mate due to the mrs beeing allergic to dog`s, cat`s basicly anything with fur. Weighed my bird last night then took her out on the field she is 2oz heavier ( at 1lb 15oz ) than she was before her operation due to me feeding her up but flew excellent and she responded stright away every time I called her I was well impressed. Thanks for the offer mate I will see how it goes

Toe has healed nicely took her to the vets and there is no problems. Took her out all last week getting her fit as she put a couple of oz on sitting around doing nothing she now weighs 2lb 2 oz and is flying great. Draged a rabbit around the field and she hit it no problem, she should be doing the business in 2 to 3 weeks
