I read a earlier thread about worming, I have some worming tablets specially made for raptors (the only ones in the world as far as I know) they are produced of a Australian company and are called WORMOUT. They kill roundworm, hairworm, caesal worm and tapeworm. They also do a wormout gel, but I prefer tablets as they are so easy to give the bird (hide it in a chick leg under the skin). As i can get hold of quite a few of this tablets I was thinking of offering for sale, one tablet is enough for 2000 gram.
But i dont know if anyone would be interessted? Just to let you know that if you want to buy some, I have some. Dont really try to make money, just want enough to cover the cost and the shipping. I find them great!!

Sounds good to me mate- where are you based?

Is it one tablet per bird?

Anyone else used these?

Yes, all falcon hospitals i the UAE (a friend of mine work there thats how I can get hold off them) and birdparks in Australia, dont know any more tough. I have used them myself but not really told others, just got the idea when someone asked about worming on here the other day.
Half a tablet does a kilogram bird. Only one tablet for one day and the bird is wormed.

Would you not test for worms first ? or just use drugs that might not be needed ?

Jim.

If the drugs are harmless to our birds and are as cheap as that, why not worm them as a matter of course, like we do our dogs?

I see what your saying but I dont like the Idea of putting chemicals that are not supposed to be there into the system of an accipiter when a need is not identified.

wELL IF YOU WANT THEM i HAVE THEM, UP TO EACH ONE OF YOU WHAT YOU THINK IS THE BEST,
Directions for use: Give half a tablet per 1 KG body weight to the raptor by inserting tablet in to meat or by direct oral dosing every six weeks.
active constituents per tablet: Praziquantel 20 mg, Oxfendazole 20 mg.

I know raptor vet Tom Baily use them and I cant see why a tablet made for falcons would be bad when people happily use panacure for dogs and cats ore sheep and cattle.
I always worm my birds a minimum of once a year and at least a coupple of times during hunting season. I noticed a increase in Tapeworms in rabbits during the last few years and consecvently so in raptors. Problem with worms (specially in un native spieses) is it brings the imune system down and make birds more more sensetive for other infections, so no, I dont agree on waiting untill a bird have worms ore show signs before you worm it. But if people can take a mute sample and get it confirmd it is offcourse as good as.
I just think a regular worming is a easier option. But remember they do not take coccsidia (however you spell it?!). Not doing this to make lods of money (doubt I will for 2 pound a tablet ;) If you add the price of shipping to your price saker sucker it will be a bit more. Im not going to run around and send a tablet here and there to all people who own one ore two birds in the UK for the price they cost me in the first place, I thought that would be comon sense? I would go to post office a few times a day for a few pence a tablet. I only tried to be helpfull, for 2 quid it is more hazzle then worth the money anyway? But I used to use panacure and I think it is a pain in the ass, then used Drontit on recomandation from avian vet in UK, but it only covers tapeworm, so as I like Wormout and it works for me, I thought I would chear it with fellow friends on the forom, after all, thats what the forum is for yeah?? if you want to order a tub, no problem at all, did not even know about the website. If you want to buy a tablet, Ill sell you one, 3 pound for saker sucker tough ;)

too much use off wormer cauuses worms to become imune to the product. then you find you may be worming regularly but not actually killing any thing. It is difficult to know which products are licensed for raptors. If you use one that is not and it ends up dead, you have no come back. The last 10 mute samples sent to the vet all came back negative for worms. all but one of these birds hunts fur and feather.

Up to you mate, as I said I worm once a year and more often if I think its necessery. I dont worm every 6 weeks. Know birds that died from panacure, but since then they changed ingredienses. Also known of birds that died of massive worm and coccidia infestions, so you cant win really. Not looking for an argument just offering tablets for raptors. And as I said, tried and recomended by avian vets, so if they happily use them on sheijk falcons I really hope they are concidered safe.

Nice offer Sarah, admit never heard of this product before. Most of you know my views on worming routinely without checking faeces first but agree to disagree on this one - Sarah probably looks after more birds each year than I have in a lifetime and had no problems, but I have my own reasons for not blindly worming. IF, and a bif IF I decided to worm blindly I would use something licensed for BOP's before even considering panacur etc (which would always be my last option!!!)
