Having just sold my last bike i have a few readies to spend.

This means to me a new Rifle (the mrs has the S200;) ) and a telemetry system for my bird next year.
Anyone got some good advice.

I want something which is good and trustworthy not a pile of cheap **** on the other hand not one that is totally overpriced for what it is.

Thankyou Ladies/Gents:D

http://www.radiotracking.com/ Luksander, have a look on the site & email them what you want & they will email you with a price including shipping from teh states to here....they quoted me £490 for a MN10 reciver & XLF-3 6v transmitter, the price included the shipping but it would take 2 weeks to egt here....So i bought a Martin Jones 3 channel system.
If you order from Luksander in the states tell them to mark the outer packaging that it is a returned service item or Gift so you wont get hit with VAT.

Yeah i know how it works Darren . My mate is the one who goes through the Cargo.
Just incase you or anyone is interested it does not make a blind bit of Difference what you put on it but offcoarse you are not going to state the obvious.
I was told 80% of goods from the states are marked 'Gift'. Its pot luck as simple as that , the plane arrives and is loaded to the brim (if its a cargo plane, if its passenger it will be in with the baggage to fill up the empty room and also to aid balancing the plane up)
If a plane arrives with 100 bins (containers full of stock etc) they will maybe pick 5 at random and go through them 'Gift' or no 'Gift'.
Being an ex-employee of BA i saw this done so do not believe it will save you it wont.
I am not sure if it still is but it was £40 was the limit after that its VAT.
Not only that but the manufacturer or should i say retailer or person is liable for prosecution but it happens so much i do not think they bother but just slap you with a VAT bill.

Anyway thats a 5% risk so i will look into your response and thanks for that;)

Said it before and i will sat it again. It's got to be Bio Track. I did something fu**en stupid the other day with my transmitter. I was having a laugh with a mate who was out flying my bird with me and i left my Bio Track transmitter on the roof of my car and drove off. I didn't notice for 2 days that i had done this. When i did i went back looking for it and found it lying at the side off the road. It had been there for 2 days in the ****ing rain and it was still giving off a signal.

I changed the batteries put it back on the bird and went back out with it. That happened last week and it is still going strong. Now if that is not reliable then i don't know what is.

buy a marshalls on 173.

there are people around you with this system and that means they will be able to help you track it too and be on hand if your system breaks down.

Have a look at the marshalls website and the posts on this forum.

Hardly a test of reliability, all falconry transmitter should be waterproof (would make tracking difficult in the rain if otherwise). Also you would want long battery life, at least 5 days.

So your test wasn't really a good example of something out the ordinary - but just how a normal transmitter should work.

Out flying

I should of mentioned that when it left the roof of my car i would of been doing between 20 and 30 mph so it hit the ground with a fair bit of force. Also last week it was ****ing down up here and it was sitting at the side of a very busy road getting well and truely soaked. I was impressed.

This simulates the hits it will have to take whilst on the hawk.

I had my gos underwater with the transmitter many times through the season, done the same as you and set off with it on the roof of the car, hit fences with it, pulled deck feathers out with it hitting wires and branches - its still working after 5 seasons use, nearly everyday during the season (weather permitting).

Marshalls RT+ transmitter.

About 900$ including 1 RT transmitter - bought from the States - which is a bargain if you can avoid the tax ( You can of course buy 'em from the uk - but I think it's dollars for pounds)
However... buying from the states will mean you get a 217 mhz setup. I've heard a convincing argument from the guys at biotrack that 173 is better (I don't understand the science)
Anyone have any opinions - or better informed than me? 217 or 173 ?
