Well, as you know, i lost my bird last weekend. took 2 days tofind him due to no telemtry. Because im only a wee trainee at the moment , im skint lol. so ive decided to buy myself 173 transmitter, battery tester, and a transmitter tester. alot of guys in the club have 173 systems so if the worse does come to the worse i could ask maybe borrow the receiver. while at the same time saving to buy my own receiver. question is, where could i get a decent transmitter, with alot of battery life and fairly light for a wee male harris hawk. Ive seen FMV Merlin Transmitterstransmitter and they seem to be the best, but im not sure if the do 173 frequencies. thanks for t eh help guys

If you are looking for a cheaper but still effective telemetry set try Hawkfinder.

I've used it on a male harris for three years and it has never let me down although the only time I have used it was when I test the system. Do this by either getting a mate to hide it a mile or two away and then you find it. If you have the best system costing £££££££ then whats the point if you cant use it.

The guys name is P.T Chapman and his no. is 0115 8498364

Shaun it would cost you about £150 for a transmitter from Marshalls, why not buy the Luksander from Andy Peel for £350...well worth the price

you wouldnt need a merlin transmitter .. a male harris is more than capable of carrying most falconry transmitters without any issues

A battery tester won't tell you if the transmitter is working, a transmitter tester won't tell you if the transmitter is working at a range. You need a receiver.......................... Otherwise your still flying blind.

If all else fails Biotrack are English and their after service is pretty good, although their prices are going up. 3rd season and all ok.Choice of three tags, but the FT3 is the most powerful and better to track the bird when on a kill on the ground. 392 batteries, 100 for £47 from www.budgitbatteries.co.uk including postage.
