Hi I am building a number of imprint pens for some birds due next year and adapting pens I already have. With this bird flu we have been advized to cover all pens for our birds, does anybody have experience with covered breeding pens ie light pannels size of windows etc, as I am used to half covered pens. any advice would be greatly appreciated

i am not sure about pens but all of my birds a housed in a barn and it as windows in the roof. my barn does not get on becasue to have a open vent that is about 6 foot hight all the way around and i have to open ends. this always the air to flow throught. this summer some of my birds where it it throught the hottest days and the where find. i waas the one cooking out side but inside they where nice and cool. so i think as long as you have plenty of vents or ooen sides to let the air throught to keep it cool and fresh you should be ok

I house all my falcons for A.I. under solid roofing without a problem. Though whta roofing you use makes all the difference, I use onduline a bitumene and compressed paper corrugated sheet thats really easy to work with. Each pen has a single translucent panel to the roof, use the onduline one again. Its the same profile but is slightly clouded so birds dont fly into it. Some pens Ive worked with had tin sheet roofing, its strong but condenses and drips all over the place.
To stop heat build up the front window extends the full length of the pen front. With a central accesss corridor with windows onto the nest ledges. If it gets at all warm you just have a fan in the corridor to circulate air.
