Hi Jak used to get all my falconry furniture from peter, early 81,82 i phoned him up once and told him i was on the search for a set of the old converted balance scales.
He told me to hold on as he was going to a market that week-end and he would see what he could find.Within a week i took delivery of a set already converted with a perch for the hawk.total price including postage £10.
It must have cost him that to post them, atb Ned.

I knew Pete he was a nice Guy always willing to go the extra mile to help someone out. We used to use his RR rings on our birds. I also used to see Leon at Dave Myatt's place and he was just like his Father.

Yes you are correct he kept his Rats in a tunnel and wild Rats got in and one of them bite him. The Doctor treated him for Flu and by the time they realised it was Weil's Disease it was too late.
Such a shame because he was a Gentleman.

Jak...the name Pete Mulholland rings bells with me from my distant past. I seem to remember purchasing a glove from him, maybe mid 70's. Did he have connections with a town called Houghton-le-Spring up North somewhere ? I'm probably way off the mark but at the same time...curious.

Hi Jak
I knew Pete very well and your Grandma Janet? It was a great shame to lose them both as friends .Pete used to keep an imprinted common buzzard called Bomber on his lawn .Woe betite you if you failed to read the warning signs and got to close to him(bomber that is,not Pete:D).
He had a lovely cottage in Moortown near Caistor .Beckside cottage, where he made falconry funiture .There were always plenty of falconers turning up and Pete always made them welcome. He would organise shortwing fieldmeets in the area which were a hoot to attend I took a saker to show Pete .I think your dad may have given it to me We slipped it at some rooks from the car window ,it got beaten to a wood turned around and flew back in through the car window.D.I used to travel up to NEFC meeting with Pete in the late 80's I think he was hawk board rep for them .Give my regards to your dad.

Jak, I knew your grandfather very well and was more than happy to count him a friend, He traveled up from the depths of Lincs to Bradford and over the years Leeds for many years to attend NEFC meetings and always had relevant input as the HB rep for a good length of time. Not always the easiest gent to get along with and I think that at some point most people and Peter fell out, but there was never any real rancour and fall outs were soon resolved. A quick visit to your grandfathers for equipement or chicks could never be quick and was always at least a two cup visit and he always had either a new idea or new item to be examined and commented upon. You I think would be more than a little surprised if you could have seen both the numbers of falconers and the distances they traveled to pay their last respects to your much missed grandfather. Carry on the traditions and the Mulholland line alive in falconry.

Jak I met your grandpa pete in the late 80s when as mark states we both attended the B.H.A meetings in nottm.and later when I moved to yorkshire . he was the first person I new that had at the time the marshall system now called the T.R.X 3 channel wich he loaned to me to trial on the quiet as at that time I was out most days on the moors flying crows and a good wedded 3rd season crow hawk would test a system properly his words not mine. He also got hold of the RON ROLLINS hood making video and all the blocks and dyes etc. A true gentle-man in all respects .VINCE

Col I used to supply Pete with some gloves etc and at the time was living at Houghton so that maybe the connection.

Thanks Keith. I never met the bloke but he seemed a decent sort. Sent me the glove on approval. I liked it so I paid up. You don't get trust like that these days....fair enough I guess.
