Anyone else tried it?

I bought one lot off him to try. I must say it is bang on for treating leather.

Used it hot for first treatment then diluted it with oil to use as a grease. Mikey sends out the instructions for use and dilution, so it really is easy.

I was that impressed I just ordered 4 more tubs, highly recommended.

i have never used it
we have Mink Oil though it comes like a wax, seeps well into the glove,
our friend had a load of **** on her glove ,.... applied the mink oil by rubbing it in and it came out a treat.

what is "mink oil" and is it any good mate? i use lanoline and neatsfoot oil have made my own jess grease in the past from a recipy from a book, white candles, liquid parrafin and bees wax, it is very good but i am allways looking at alternatives!

I have used it and even gone as far as Testing it to see the difference with it compared to Ko Cho Lin, Linseed Oil & Dubbin. The method he suggests and instruction he gives leaves you with a product that WILL last longer, is better protected and I can categorically say I took some normal cow hide leather that was not the best and after treatment and a couple of days curing it turned out to be so strong I could not break it. I then re-tested an untreated piece just to make sure and it broke very easily.

I am a convert and it is cheap too!

PM Mikey as it is probably the best and easiest method!
Here is a link: http://www.falconryforum.co.uk/private.php?do=newpm&u=653 to PM him directly from here in a new window.

Just to blow my own trumpet a little!!
The white wax/beeswax and parrafin was devised to use less beeswax. The white wax is more dense/solid than beeswax and is obsorbed into leather less in a melted state than beeswax. The parrafin thins white wax down a little allowing to be obsorbed into the leather more easily.Parrafin can also encourage the pores of the leather to open, compromising the strength and the life span.
My beeswax formula will waterproof and add strength to your leather.Beeswax(and honey)also have anti bacterial qualities.

its a mix of lanolin, silicone, and vit E oil with the oils of mink, it waterproofs, preserves and conditions

you want some for your leather mask moses?

LeighJauncey

Did you make up the recipe or adapt a traditional one? I've still got some of a similar ilk that I made 30 years ago - I can certainly vouch for its longevity - mine is still perfect (kept in air-tight jars) - I can't remember where I got the recipe from. I know I adapted it a bit as I didn't have all the right ingredients except the beeswax and paraffin oil.

Hi There Mikey,
I got to do me glove at last Mate and am very pleased with the results of the hot ees Wax treatment.
I washed it first and then very gently dried the wettest areas with warm air.
I then Heated the Wax in it's container in the Micro for 30 secs at a time until liquid and then just wore the glove and applied the Wax rubbing it in well to all areas with a piece of cloth.
Results.
Nice and supple.
Good water repellant finish.
With plenty left over for jesses, "Bangles" Etc.
Thanks Mate..

Mikey, does heated straight beeswax work too? I'm in Canada so shipping would be expensive, from reading other posts on the forum this seems to be the key ingredient.

Have just received the last of this years Beeswax,so if anyone is interested in my formula please pm me.The cost is as mentioned in earlier posts 5 english pounds for a tub. That includes postage in the uk!
Those of you that have bought some in the past can i ask you to let me know if you're happy with it!?

Mikey
06-12-2005, 07:45 PM

I'm interested, but have no idea the cost to ship to Canada (or how to figure it out). Mikey, do you have before and after pictures on how it makes the glove look? Does it get rid of the suede finish or just soak in and become (mostly) unnoticeable? Not sure what 5 pounds is in Canadian dollars either.

Hawkmaster
07-12-2005, 11:15 AM
OK, let see if I can help out here?

www.xe.com (http://www.xe.com) will sort out the funding side
www.royalmail.com (http://www.royalmail.com) will sort out the postage side.

It would be hard to show in pictures what the formula does to the leather. It makes it instantly soft n supple, water proofs and strengthens right the way through the leather without having to rub like crazy to work it in.It is very much a touchy feely thing.
All i can say is i'm confident you'll be happy with it if you follow the instructions. So confident that if you're not satisfied you can return the formula and i'll refund your money and postage.

How big is the tub? (and the weight?) Trying to figure on postage - oh and you said 5 GBP including postage.... whats it without? I don't have paypal, what do you suggest? Stuff sounds great, just need to get the details straight.

Hawkmaster
07-12-2005, 05:54 PM
Mine was just over 9 oz, so work on 10 and call it 260 grams, so with the Royal Mail thingy it works out to about £2.89, so it may only cost you about £1.50 or so extra?

HTH?

Fawkes
07-12-2005, 09:42 PM
Cool - so 6.50 or 7.00 GPB (~ $14 canadian) should cover it.. that is pretty good.
HM, you seem to really know this stuff (and like it!), I assume it doesnt make the glove all greasy? how long does a tub last you?

do you take cheques, mikey?

Hawkmaster
09-12-2005, 05:27 PM
I have not tried it on a glove, but on the leather I have tried it on, it will make old jesses soft and supple again. New leather becomes stronger and if wiped with a dry clean rag will most certainly do the job I think?

Cheques he will not be able to cash here in the UK, but if it were me I would accept US Dollars?

HTH?

Paul

Mikey

You guys must have paypal!! pay with that if you like....The glove thing....if its a suede look you have you just have to rub it in a little to keep the look.

Got my tub of Mikey's formula several weeks ago and finally got around to trying it out on my glove - came out great!! As I dont have a bird, still have to try it out there, but it doesnt mung up the glove or make it greasy etc. Improves the look of the glove, nearly invisible, and the water just runs off it. I'd recommend this stuff to anyone. Mikey was great about shipping, costs, and putting up with my procrastination :D I will definately be using it on the jesses for my RT in the fall.

Thanks Mikey! Will definately reorder from you when I run out.
