Sorry if this is duplicating somewhere i thought i had just done this reply.....

I bow graciously to the far superior intelect of the welsh race.

My father in law (merfyn) gave me the welsh names. (His first language is welsh and believe me there is no one more welsh than he. He was born in Deganway at least i hope that is how you spell it and if it isnt then im sure you will let me know !!!!!

Anyway I didnt think i did to badly as he didnt write aderyn down for me and i have got no excuse for mixing wind and speed up. I guess translation got mixed up over time !!

ANYWAY ISNT WREXHAM IN ENGLAND !

I bow out lower than whence i arrived......................

P.S I will phone him and check it out tonight just in case your aving me on.

Lanners - Chaka, Dingaan, Cetewayo, Mpande, Dinizulu.
Spars - Geronimo, Victorio, Naiche, Ulzana, Juh.
All nest mates are named after a theme. Helps keep track of who's who. The themes here are pretty obvious.
Also have a friend who named his musket "Ingwe". Means "Cheetah" in the Shona language.

Valen is a Female White Tailed Sea Eagle, from the latin Valens- powerful worthwhile.

Jarreth was named after a goblin king played by david bowie in a film called labyrinth, he turned into a barn owl, to enter the mortal world. Jarreth is my male Harris he was my first bird.

They do get to know their names but only by association just like a whistle, they know that if they hear that sound and they return they will get a reward.

Sound association 'Pavlovs Dogs'.

Female Harris - Freyja - you all probably know who she was...so I wont bore you.. :)
Male Harris - Daedalion - King whose daughter Chine had relations with both Apollo and Hermes. She had babies by them both, and was so proud of this that she boasted to everybody how the best looking gods had come to her.

Chine went too far when she turned against Artemis and said she wasn't that beautiful. The goddess had her killed and Daedalion committed suicide by jumping of a cliff at Mt. Parnassus. Apollo then transformed the king into a hawk.

what do you think of those names?

Jarreth: Malfoy's bird wasn't named, so far as I can tell. All I know is that it was an EEO, and the only EEO I've met just happens to have been one of the ones filmed for the movie.

I'm content to just call Malfoy's owl Ulysses, because it's the name of one of the 'performing' owls in the movie.

Anyway, on to other bird names (none of these birds are mine).

Ulysses - Male EEO
Isabeau - FRT
Shyann - FHH
Zulu - Male African Lanner Falcon

They all belong to a falconer I worked with last summer.
