I was wondering. Does anyone have expirience with this bird? is it good for falconry? any information i would apreciate it. thanks

Great Black Hawk (Buteogallus urubitinga)
Pantanal, Mato Grosso, Brazil
Almost entirely black with white on the base and the tip of the tail and with yellow legs and cere.
The Great Black Hawk is found in Central America and in tropical and sub-tropical South America. It lives in a broad range of habitats from open country to forest but is normally to be seen near water.
The Great Black Hawk feeds on a wide variety of prey including snakes, rodents, birds and fish.

it is quite big but i'm not sure how is its beheavior, i think once someone told me they were pretty agresive, but how good is that. is it fast enoght to hunt jacks or it hunts better cottontails.

they have very long legs and are quiet lean but dont know how they would be for falconry ive alspo heard that they are aggresive

the information about where they come from, and the tail having white tips. The pics show its got the face of the harris. I would say its either a harris or related to the harris.

i know of abreeder in the usa but he wont export, i wonder if they could be the next h.hawk? as and when they start to become available? they look very similar but with a shorter tail and bigger!

It would depend on their temperament as well as size.

just had a look on the web ..thay do look very much like a black hh.

FYI... At a talk given by a ornithology professor from Arizon who studies HH, the origin of the HH was suggested to be from the tropics rather than arrid regions of Mexico and Southwestern USA. It was partially based on the assumption that black & bay coloration of HH is unlikey to evolve in the current climate, thus a tropical forest was theorize to be the point of origin for the HH.

they do look a bit simila to a harris, dose any one know if they are a pack animal like the harris? they look mean!

Not a lot of info out there but if you accept Google's translation of the info I found it says they are solitary.

thats the breeder i was thinking about, he wont export though. have you seen his prices? $1500-£2500 for a european common buzzard!! $4500 for a european eagl owl!!!

well he is american! the common buzzard probably isnt as common over there....but even so...that is taking the **** a bit...but he must sell them, or they would be cheaper.:rolleyes:

The "Buteogallus Urubitinga" looks very nice. I want one. :)
Looks very similar to a harris, its tail looks same size as red-tail (well the photo im looking at does)
