Did a static display at the village of Grafham in the summer with a few owls and several people pointed at Ben the EEO and said 'There's been one of those around this village for about 6 years'.
Think probably most of the original birds who have started to breed are escapees from captivity - it's quite a long way to fly, isn't it, for an EEO from the continent? Just a theory but would appreciate being told otherwise!

i was told about a breeding pair in the wild.in shropshire about 12 years ago.
i bet theres plenty out there.and yes i think they come from lost captive bred birds.also heard storys of harrises breeding in wild in the uk.

Short eared owls do come over from Scandinavia but I've never heard of a EEO doing so

I saw it on the news this morning........They seem to be doing well......I think they said they've raised 22 chicks!........Makes a change seeing them naturally than seeing them involved in the fox hunting scene!

there was a lengthy article in ,i think it was this years ibr directory about eagle owls breeding wild in this country, and apparently have done for quite some time? heard of lanners as well a good few years ago and loads of rumers of harrises. ive seen red tails breeding with wild buzzards in two seperate locations.

When i was in college a couple of years ago i had a friend who did a lot of work for The RSPB, he would always keep me upto date with raptor sitings etc and he was tellin me there are escapee eagle owls out there living and breeding quite readily.
