Hi all im trying to breed my imprinted african spotted owl .
I got the male when he was 2 weeks old and hand reared him .
Ive had him for about a year and half now and have just bought a breeding female .
They,ve been in the aviary together for about a week now and there seems to be no contact at all ,each time the female see,s me she hisses ,my male just hoots .
Is there no chance of breeding and is there more chance of the emaculate conception .lol
Can anyone help
Thanks

its not impossable stranger things have happened.but its unlikely m8, the immaculate conception was probably a better bet.

johny imprint owls will breed.and thay have only been together for a week.
leave them till next season and see what happens.time will only tell.
not hundred percent sure but think eagle owls breed as early as january.
you have plenty of time yet.

Has anyone ever bred an imprinted owl ?????????
My mate had a rehab male barn owl that he put in with his imprint female due to space constraints and she laid 5 eggs in January!!
Give them a bit more time Johnny, as Talon says they've only been in together a week - they aint like humans!

Once in an aviary Imprinted owls normally revert and will breed. I used to breed Owls about 12 to 15 years ago and I have bred from most of them Imprints included. The only downside to reverted Imprints is that they have no fear of man so removeing eggs or chicks for incubation or rearing can be difficult and in some cases dangerous. I have had to have stiches in my leg from an Imprinted male Snowy Owl protecting his nest.
With African Spotted you should see eggs somewhere around the end of February to mid March

Thanks for the info lads ,great help .
Ive fixed an old bird box in the corner about 4ft off the ground with some wood shavings in it.
Will this be a good nest box ?
