I am going to build a mews soon as i have access to free (well aquired) timber from work (dont panic not getting a bird yet i realize im not ready lol). The frame will be mainly 3"x3" if this is exposed internally could the cross members (believe their called nogins or something) result in the bird perching on them if free lofted? if so is this likely to cause damage to feathers etc and cleaning problems?

do you realise that building a mews from stolen timber could result in your bird being arrested as an accesery to a crime?

aquired timber is timber that is not really missed and going to a good home. It is only taken home covered in a sheet to keep it warm

Ellis,
have as few horizontal timbers as possible apart from perches. Your bird will try to land and cling to them if spooked, resulting in feather damage. You will also find it makes cleaning a nightmare as every bit of **** and small feathers will sit there festering. You would be better off lining your mews out with boarding or heavy gauge polythene.
