i wouldn't suggest them, thick as s**t! ???? I have had experience with a number of hand raised great greys and have found them to be one of the best owls to train, handle and maintain flying (very similar in many ways to a barn owl other than size) although there feathers are a nightmare very soft and break very easy occasionally they can be a little footy but on the whole i would reccomend them - would alway fly them from free loft aswell

then i appologise and bow to your greater experiance! i'v never liked owls much in general, but i'm jus waitin for the experiance! i work with a few owls but not a large variety! african spotteds, maggelans, bengals, great grey, barn, little, europien, and milky eagle-owls which i do like! but i really dont see the point in buyin an owl that u cant hunt with! for the 'fun' i guess! soz for the sarcasm!

Hi Jan,

Depends when you are thinking of getting them and whether you want a baby or a rehome job.

I have seen them ranging from £750 to £1100 depending who and where you get them from.

I have my name down with a friend who is breeding them next year thats a) if they do infact breed - first time and b) if a male is in the brood - knowing my luck probably not lol

Good luck

Debbie xx

price is around £950 in the UK

The last place i worked had 1. When it came to training it responded better to some people and not others.

the problem they had was trying to keep it's tail intact. They have a long tail and this 1 was always smashing it.

Stunning to look at. Masses of feathers on them

At the foundation we have 2 hybrid owls - Great Horned X African Spotted. They're called Angel and Jeebs and are a very interesting addition to the flying display team. We also have a great grey owl called Buzz and he's a lovely looking bird but not really the sharpest knife in the drawer!
