anyone flying a steppe, and what weight do they fly at. I do not have one but have been out with my friend and he was amazed at her flying 7lb 1oz and catching the hare lure but today she was 7lb 7oz and even more responsive. Just want to know if this is average or not
cheers

It rather depends on the sub species mate. There are two Aquila rapax nipalensis, and Aquila rapax orientalis. One is bigger than the other, though individual variation exists. Tawny eagles handled correctly are more productive than Steppes. Weight is in the range of females Ive flown.

i was out with my friend last week when she was 6-13....you thought yeah.....this saturday he weighed her and got a bit of a shock when she was 7-1..........thought see whats she is like.......even more responsive than before.....so he tried a lure hare that i had to run up the hill......well smart we managed to catch on the phone camera..........well excited.....he let her feed up on it but when sunday came he wanted to know what she weighed....7-7....again took her out..even more responsive than saturday. after a few more flights and titbits when he weighed her after the response level went down she weighed 7-13...i was glad we took the camcorder up on the sunday i think i watched it 5 or 6 times just brilliant seeing her. the way she acts with him even writing this brings a smile to my face and she aint mine

Hi Pitbull

Mine is male and when fit flies at 5lb 10lb, and he's quite small for a nipalensis, so I think that your female is about right

I have a female that weighs 3100 grams... Not hunting tough, only flying on a bird show, but I'm sure she could hunt at this weight! I'm raising his weight, and she's still in "hunting mode" LOL
