View Full Version : Tricky decision
ok, as u all probually know i have a bit of a screamer on my hands. his fitness isnt the best as i can only fly him at weekends at the moment. but due to this he is missing rabbits. i would like to fist jump his but was wonderign if this will take away any hope that he will quiet down? i was thinking of lettign him come to the fist, then droping the food through my hand, so he learns that my fist isnt the place for food, but the place to HUNT for food. what do u guys think?

I have the same problem mate........When i do fist jumps she screams the place down even if i do them in the field......I started to the other day doing them on the field..when she flew vertically to the fist i through a bit of chick on the floor..I did this alternativly..sometimes giving her a tit bit on the fist....then on the floor and sometimes no tit bit at all..After a bit she didn't know when she was gettin it or where......So its worth a try mate just keep alternating it......Like i said she only screams in the field when doing jump ups...After doing this routine a few times she settled down....But im fortunate enough at the minute to be able to fly her everyday so i dont do them much!

yeah do the high jumps, but let him feed wen he catches the food that you throw down. He wil soon learn that being on the glove means food appears from somewhere. He will get back on the glove keenly and this might also go some way to helping with the screaming problem...becasue although hes not hunting preoperly...this to him is catching food...so at worst...it wont help...but it wont make him worse.

Sean is the bird vocal out in the field, if not try lamping with him as this will give you more time to get the fitness up.Also it may help with the vocal side as all the bird will see is game when the lamp is turned on, if you can use a red filter on the lamp and when chasing quarry change over to white light.

anything is worth a try, the only time ive ever cured a screamer was when i let the bird go to a friend for a while, it shut up! when i got it back i started it from scratch and it turned out o k? unfortunately i think once learned most screamers remain screamers, its the prevention rather than the cure which is important, sorry that probably isnt much help. regular flying with plenty of kills definately helps in most cases.
thanks for the help guys,
andy, he is silent in the field. but i wasnt intending to ttry lamping untill he has a good few kills under his belt.

Sean why not try 'lamping' with a dead bunny until you reach the kill level you want? I have found my little chap will fly any distance on the creance to the fist using a lamp so I use this to keep him fit on the days I cannot fly him. I've never really been a fan of high jumps anyway.
