I do like the look of a hood on a bird but its for the birds sake i would get one not just for my own vanity.
I have been out with some falconers who some use and some dont.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a hood or not?
Thought i would set up a Poll.
Apologies if done before.
are we talking about any particular type of birds ie falconeshawks eagles or harris

I have not used a hood in the past, I have however trained my new FHH to the hood giving me the option, particularly when out with others.

Assuming its a HH:
Good in groups, good for walking over roads, on non permission etc, good for the hawk, good if there is an accident, good for travel, good for slipping, good for the experience, good fun, looks good, part and parcel of falconry........use the hood you know it makes sense. :D

i was gonna write somthing like that! ...with me, once a hawk is getting really tame he spends less and less time in the hood.

If your going to use a hood at all you need to keep it as part of the birds normal day to day handling. Otherwise the bird will work out stratergies to avoid or regect the hood. I use them on hawks, eagles, and falcons, never realy bothered with buzzards though. Although I deffinatley would hood a Ferruginous.

I don't see a reason for not hooding unless the bird absolutely will not take it for whatever reason.
I don't see any downside in being able to hood your bird but I do see a downside in not being able to hood.
Just my 2 cents worth.
