View Full Version : Seeking recommendation

I apologise for my first post being a request for help, but timing is a killer.

I'm an expat Aussie living in Somerset and what I would call an unqualified beginner enthusiast. I've always held a deep facination for birds of prey, with the intensity of the relationship between handler and bird being a considerable lure (excuse the pun).

There are limited opportunities in Oz to further explore the field, and it's difficult to find like-minded people who aren't just out to make a tokenistic quick buck. But, I seem to be in the right spot now in this country to finally develop my interest, experience and knowledge.

However, after reading the forum and speaking to a few others in the field, it would seem I need to be a bit careful about where I go to get quality advice and experience.

Is there anyone on forum who can assist with a recommendation?

In the first instance, I'm keen to find somewhere/someone that myself, and an equally interested friend, might obtain first hand guidance and experience with handling. I'd prefer one on one if possible, and preferably in Southern England.

The timing bit is related to the friend's imminent birthday (Friday !!). I'd like to be able to surprise him with something organised.

Thanking you in advance.

Cheers

J

Welcome to the forum J. Hope you like it here.

In regards to your query...

The National Birds of Prey Center is approximately 2hours away from yourself located 25miles away from Gloucester. This has been highly recommended in the past, but since the departure of JPJ and her team, i am not sure what it is like now... anyone???

Not sure what they are like, but Exmoor Falconry located in the district of Somerset is also available...

I'm sure more members on the forum will no more centers round about your area....

All the best and hope you find what your looking for and hope you both have a great experience...

Jamie :D
