View Full Version : Best Boots?

What boots does everyone wear when out hawking?
Personally I'm not over keen on wearing wellies as I find them awkward and very cold even with several pairs of socks on, and am finding it hard to find boots that live up to their 'completely waterproof' claim, sick of getting wet feet whilst out especially in this weather. The ammount of money I've already spent on boots that haven't worked I coulda bought a pair of leather lined le chameau wellies! If i can't find an alternative I may have to bite the bullet and fork out for some.
Any Recommendations?

muck boots, they are made from neoprene so the tops are stretchy. they are warm very waterproof, and because its stretchy and tight around the calf even if you step in water that goes above the top it wont run down into the boot. on the downside they are expensive and only really last a year or 2 in good condition

theres some listed here http://www.amirashop.co.uk/acatalog/Muckboots.html am sure other people will have other opinions though. just read your original post and realised you wernt really looking for wellies, these are more comfortable than most though because they are stretchy. they dont feel like wearing wellies. as for boots i wear rockports which have never let any water in .......untill it goes over the top of the boot lol try http://www.mandmsports.com/default.asp for cheaper rockports

I wear the neoprene lined wellies, they are a bit warmer, mine also have a decent sole to them (not like hunters). I cant remember the make but they were about £30.

where'd u get em from hun? le chameau do a neoprene lined set for less than the leather lined one but it's still like £150 that is a bit too much on a pair of wellies in my opinion hehehe but then again if they last a lifetime it's worth it........ ****in hate wet, cold feet! lol
ive got a pair of hunter high length boots, there thermal lined and fully waterproof, very supportive and offer great traction on most surfices, although a little expensive for a pair of boots i have **** ankles so a good boot is a must to me, i can walk all day in these and i have no rubbing on my feet and they stay warm and dry, plus the extra length gives great support
i have the real tree version of these @ £135 .. but worth every penny in my eyes ->

I always said that about the cost of these wellies until I bit the bullet and bought a pair! I now would not be without them, worth every penny. Just make sure you get a good fit, if they are to tight they murder your feet!

that's the thing with mail order bud.... i'm usually a size 8 but in wellies i say i'm about a 7,1/2 but they don't do a 7,1/2 only 7 or 8 so they're usually either too tight or too loose and i need several socks to get the desired fit. are yours le chameau buddy?

dunno what's wrong hehehe must have weird feet... have tried both cheap and expensive boots and all are good for a certain period then all of a sudden...wet cold feet again......sick of wasting my money, with xmas upon us tho i can't really justify spending 150+ on wellies albeit a really decent pair that'll last.... sorry luv, only got you a dvd this xmas cos i had to buy some wellies hehehehe that'd be no sex for me for a few months hehehehehe

had em since last season mate, spray them with a reproofing spray once every couple of months but i could go stand in a stream and they would be fine!

reproofing spray........ sounds good, didn't know about it. where can i get some from mate? may be a cheaper alternative. can u use it on goretex or sympatex material and still maintain the 'breathable' feature of it?
yep .. see link

Norris's at Penrith do a good range in Hunter (not the cr4ppy ones) - the ones with the vibram (?) walking sole... and tey do mail order
Bargain of the year though... try the Hunter Factory Outlet in Dumfries. I don't know if they do mail order/ give 'em a ring
They do a boot called the Glentrool - it's basically a welly, half leather lined, with a neoprene/ polartec foot bit - comfortable, waterproof and warm.
I don't know if they're discontinuing the model/ line but I picked a pair up for £75 which isn't bad for leather wellies... (If I wasn't such a pikey I'd buy another pair in reserve ;o)

I swear by Lundhags boots. Just replaced my last pair, which lasted me 7 years, without ever letting water in, and are the comfiest and most supportive boots I've ever owned.
I do a lot (and I mean a lot) of shooting, beating, stalking and part time keepering and I live in my boots.
The key is to keep them lubricated with a good quality wax (Lundhags supply a tin with their boots).
Not cheap.....I use the Vidda High, which are about £175, but you definitely get what you pay for.
The only suppliers in the UK are Penrith Survival Equipment (www.penrithsurvival.co.uk, tel: 01768 351666)

I have a pair of Dubarrys
They are excellent and will take all the rough and tumbles you can put them through. Warm ,lightweight, good grip , waterproof and breathable.
At £100 a foot they should be.
They guarantee them against leaking for life.

Ive used a pair of berghaus boots for walking for the last 7 years, paid £130 quid for them and they are just starting to let water in a little now. if weather is really bad i wear gaitors with them and can wade up to the top of gaitors in the water and feet are still warm and dry. i am going to invest £20.00 in a pair of these socks though to keep my feet warm and dry when its just wet & muddy and I'm out in the fields with the dogs.
i recon i will get another few years out of my boots yet.......

Yes they are Le Chameau, I tried cheaper ones but they were not that good! I found that I have to go 1 1/2 sizes bigger than normal.
