When out hawking what bag , if any, do you use?
I prefer ex-army gas mask bags over the traditional hawking bags. I find them better in every way.
i use an ex army bag, bit diffecult to put rabbits into it, but its only 3 quid lol.

I like the bags Martin Jones makes really hard wearing and durable, do however find that a bag tends to get in the way when jumping fences so use a pineo vest. Tend to use the bag more when training etc.

I use a hawking vest, once you have good birds you need one to carry the quarry, 5 rabbits in a traditional bag is heacy.

The image that sticks in my mind about the traditional hawking bag is that of an austringer running after his rapidly dissapearing hawk with the bag twirling behind him like the propeller on a boat!

Got to agree with the bag getting caught up in fencing, branches etc.
Depends on the terrain where I fly her.

i use either the pineo bandolero bag or a pineo vest, both hold plenty of quarry and are superb in the field.

Avery Guide bag. Lots of room for four rabbits, 1/3 the price of a hawking bag. Unlike a vest you can take it off with the hawk on your fist. Kurt

Here in the U.S. we have a lot of brush areas where we fly hawks so hawking vests are the best. Crossing barbed wire fences also is a real treat with a bag so again the vest works great. You can carry numerous items and eqt. and it wears nicely.

Not so, if you use a belt in conjunction with the shoulder strap, in the style of the military Sam Browne Belt.

For displays I used bags, but training with a creance did catch up. Jackets, like a fishermans jacket were best for training and normal pineo type were horrid with the creance, did catch up pretty bad.
Off the creance ie hunting and fitness, vest and jacket are ace and I swap between all 3 of them so birds dont become to accostumed lol.

Vest is best: Why? Well, ferret finder, food, hood, knife, lure, first aid kit, glove, camera and camcorder............oh and game if we are lucky.

how do use cover a kill with a vest?
You either have one with straps that you can release on the left side (so the vest can be removed and used to cover quarry - and then put back on once the hawk is back on the fist.....or carry an old tea towel....

I never cover it, just get the hawk to jump from the kill.

If true, you will die young and with a hallowed space in the realms of falconry....just like Joplin, Hendrix and the other falconry greats, all of whom supped from the perfumed vat of Southern Comfort!:supz:  :supz:
They also only used a hawking vest....a bag to them was a mere piffle.

its a waistcoat for me im afraid, cant be done with all the dangley bags that dont hold enough game, especially when it snags on a barbed wire fence as i climb over. learnt from experience!
