Please have a look at the new field meet forms on the DEFRA website, they are much less restrictive than they were before, allowing normal field meets to be held if licenses are applied for. There is no excuse now for not allpying for field meet licenses. There is also the advantage in that if we all put in applications we can show we are a large responsible body. If nobody applies they could say- falconers do dot hold meets, so might as well ban them if there is no opposition.

2 or more people is a group, and needs a license. The difference in the license now is that you can have more than one bird out of the vehicles and on the fist, so a field meet can run as before, rather than only having one bird out at a time.
The form can be downloaded from the site.

I have also spoken to DEFRA and advised them to consider contacting all owners of birds registered with them to spread the word a bit further.
However if you are caught without a license ignorance is not a valid arguement.

Is the link I posted yesterday correct?
The reason I ask is that some of the conditions, whilst approriate to a formal field meet, aren't really practical for an open license valid for 1 month for a couple of friends going out for a bit of casual hawking.

I am not aware of the open license application option, I cannot see any info. What you need to do is send in a license application for each meet, I am sending 2 in today for the weekend, and some for the following weekend as well, it only takes a few minutes to fill in.
Apart from a risk of a fine you will probably find your insurance is not valid without a license as the activity will be illegal.

That looks pretty fair to me, and even less escuse for people not to apply for licenses if they can register several possible places that they can fly on over several weeks.
Remember your insurance is unlikely to cover you if you do not have a license.
