I have a pair of mountain hawk eagles (mature). I want to breed from them. My breeding enclosure is 4x8x3 m. concrete walls. Is it big enough? Once you put the birds together, how much food do you give to them? Basically, what do you do to make them breed?
it worries me that you have a pair of birds like mountain hawk eagles and you are asking questions like pen size and how much to feed them!

how were the birds reared, were they taken from different nests or were they trapped?

They were partially hand reared but I dont really know from what age hand rearing begun.

Hi Hawkeagle,
I don't own a bird yet so can't help you there unfortunately.
You could try e-mailing this falconry centre in Quebec. The founder of the centre is Dan Paradis, he has bred several types of raptors.
The website address is www.centredefauconnerie.com.
I have e-mailed him before... He was quite helpful.
Hope that helps.
Britt :-)

your pen seems big enough, i think pen interior design is important, a lot of people think you need the perches as high as possable and this is true but not so high that the birds cant copulate, with big birds like these that would mean no perches higher than(and im guessing here) say 4/5 ft from the roof. i have no experience with birds like this and would suggest you contact someone like andrew knowles brown in scottland who is breeding several types of eagle succesfully.

How can I get in touch with the man? Does he have an e-mail address? Thanks.

Whats their age? Did the hen laid an egg last year? Have you seen any courtship behavior? The most general advice is to "stuff" them full of food. The male needs plenty of food on hand at all times for courtship. Perhaps a variety of different foods (mammals and birds) I'm not an expert on these birds, tho.
