Pete Sibson is the best one to answer that.

from what I understand male falcon hybrids do tend to be fertile however the viability and amount of semen give is often reduced compaired to a pure bred birds

She's waiting to go into an imprint pen. I haven't flown her this season - more to do with my health than anything. Hopefully we'll be breeding next year, which was the original point in getting her. This was also one of the reasons for the question - our tiercel is a year behind - I just found someone with a mature male imprint saker/lanner locally and thought, why not try it? (I'm sure someone will tell me why not!) - Just to get her started - and me as I've never ventured into AI before.

If the male is an imprint just get a microscope and check out the fertility from there? This may be your best option to see if the male is OK, but I believe most the time it is hybrid females that are almost always barren. Good luck and keep us informed?

Its not actualy the case that all female hybrids are infertile. Crossing between the family groups of falcon are more likely to be subfertile. This being that part of the reproductive system seams to be defective. Though in family hybrids retain high (Normal) fertility. The main two family catagories that we work with in falconry are the Rhyncodon, and Hierofalco families. Rhyncodon being the Peregrine types including the Barbary, Shaheen, and possibly Taita falcons. The Hierofalcos being the Sakers, Gyrs, Lanners, Luggers, Praires, etc. So the hybrid here a Lanner/Saker has a far higher chance of being at an acceptable level of fertility than say a Peregrine cross Saker or a Gyr/Barbary.
