Best Hawk I have ever flown!

They will take Collared Doves off the fist with at least a 40m head start, as lond as they are not more than about 15m high.:supz:

I certainly know what a secretary bird looks like. The one I'm thinking of is a delicious brunette called Carol.

Hawkmaster
30-11-2005, 06:57 PM
I don't think anyone breeds them in the UK, if anyone it would be Griff from the Welsh Hawking Centre. He also has brought in the most of them from an old friend in Pretoria South Africa.

The one I had was between 500 and 550gr and even at that size absolutely lethal on Francolin. Mellow birds to train and steady in the field too. A must to hood as passage birds know all the tricks and most of their skills are derived from surprise.

PeelsBells
30-11-2005, 07:14 PM
Do you fly these birds off the fist ,out of cars windows on to quarry.

Hawkmaster
30-11-2005, 07:18 PM
Never did out of the car hawking until I got the to UK, as quarry was more difficult to find.

Always off the fist.

PeelsBells
30-11-2005, 07:24 PM
I think i would like a bash at one of these if they were avaliable as they look stunning and if the are good in the field thats even better.
I keep on looking at the Coppers for the coming season as everyone over here has said they are no good but all are American friends say they are second to none.
I just fancy the challenge to see if they are good as the spar and take bigger quarry.

I once flew a Coopers, an adult female loaned to me by someone whilst he was ill in hospital. She showed great promise at anything from blackbirds up. Unfortunately, her stay with me was cut short by her owner who, rather thoughtlessly in my opinion, got better.

Wahlbergs eagle

Wingless
01-12-2005, 05:45 PM
Yeh wahlberg's eagle :), bit like a small african tawny eagle. I had high hopes for him soaring around, took him up sutton bank in yorkshire the other day, he didnt look too impressed so i launched him off into the updraft, he stooped about 20 feet down to a ledge covered in heather and hid! I had to climb down the cliff and pick him up. So that was that! Quite quick off the fist but not very manouverable.

Wilfred
01-12-2005, 06:56 PM
well when i try to save the picture of the eagle it says wabbit as name of the picture..and i guess it is not a wabbit well this will not be a regular name for a bird of prey.Or is it

With the falcons it was easier i just wanted to save and saw the names there

The conure is a Sharp-Tailed Conure.
Aratinga A. acuticaudata.
Same as in the movie "Paulie"

Roel_Birds

The first one is a Northern Hawk Owl (Surnia ulula) and the second is a European Pygmee Owl (Glaucidium passerinum). No doubt about it.
