Really depends on the quarry most goshawkers stop flying at the end of the game season. Some people fly like you say till march on rabbits i prefer to stop end of Jan and away for an early moult (i hope)

this will sound stupid to alot of you but when you stop flying your birds at the end of the season dose this mean you stop flying them altogether till the start of the hunting season thanks andy

My Harris i fly from end of August through to April, then put him down to moult, my Saker, I did try to hold her moult off until late in the summer but she started to throw her primaries in May.
The idea was to hunt during the season with the HH, and fly the longwing through the summer months at just the lure. That way no 4-5 month lay up from flying. Just a shame it didn't work out that way

not a stupid question at all; most birds moult from about April, when the daylight hours get longer. So in general, we put our birds down to moult then; this also gives all the young rabbits etc. a chance to grow before we set upon them after the moult:supz:

HP, we crossed posts

I generally begin flying in August (using the preceding few weeks making quite sure all my gear is up to scratch, putting go-faster handles on the field-type zimmer frame, having the mobile commode overhauled, checking my emergency recuscitation kit, that type of thing), and ending somewhere in mid-February, when the gear is once again battered and worn out, and the falconer also.

i usually hang the glove up end of feb but as got a 1200+ acre pheasant shoot with that many pheasants on i have to fly from the fist at the mo for selective flights(to easy otherwise besides the game keeper says not too many phessy's at the mo)i may run into march as he wants a few cleared up and will give the bird a run for his money after being phessy's being over wintered

PS i know the season ends end of feb but just doin the keeper a favour lol

around april for me, usually when a feather falls out or a baby bunny is caught. whichever comes first.
unless of course breeding is on the agenda. The last flight being on new years day.

If I could never :D with an accipiter u must stop flying coz growing feathers can damaged on the branches when the hawk flying trough them. but at a longwing its not a problem or at a HH what do not hunt rabbits or big birds like a pheasant. but at an accipiter I stop flying when the first primary or deck feather dropped.(I fly in full condition in most cases)

Why stop flying. Fly them 365 days a year.

Most of us have to stop flying cos are wives say so. Also it gives me a chance to be a dad again.
I stop at then end of January gives the birds good time for pairing ready for the breeding season, also gives the land time to stock back up.

Here in Minnesota we have a season for falconry. It starts Sept 1st and goes until Feb 28th. We can hawk non-native species all yr. Then there is a special crow season that starts July 15th and goes until Oct 15th. There is a loophole in the regs for that tho. "If a crow is doing damage or about to do damage it can be taken."

I stop flying my falcon at the end of the game season (end of january). I try though to keep the Golden going right up until the AI season.
