My female harris comes to a whistle(myself) or her name....You can use a whistle depends on what sounds best to you...One thing thow if you have a dog and use a whistle with it..get one for the hawk that sounds different to avoid confussion...I have a bell on the tail and the leg...Helps to guide you in the right direction!...Have a word with peelsbells andy..He will sort you out with some quality bells!

I would allways use a whistle. If u loose ur bird a whistle is louder and it doesnt matter if ur mouth is dry etc. I use a leg bell. Havnt used a legbell personally

With regards bells, I use both, tail and leg; don't forget that a natural trait of the HH, is that it can't help itself and wiggles its tail every few minutes. If the bird is 'lost' n a tree and standing still, you wont hear his leg bells but within a few minutes, he'll shake his tail and give his position away to you.
I also use a whistle; not as a be all and end all but he knows that the whistle means reward; he also responds to just hand signals ( this is particularly useful when game is about and you want him back on the glove for a slip)

I just use me as the whistle, I have a cheapo dog whistle and the dog responds to that or me whistling. The problem with a whistle you buy, is it is only one note unless you learn to use a sheperds whistle. The bird responds to two different whistles, one is a recall which is 2 different shortish notes. The second is a longish note which means move up or come over here, depending where it is. The dog has 3 seperate combinations, recall, sit or stay, and turn. Both dog and bird respond to hand signals.
As for bells, I just use a tail bell, I don't like things on the legs of a hunting bird as they can catch on things and there is a chance of a talon going in to the bell slit. I just have anklets and very short flying jess on the legs. I use the standard idea of a tail mount that holds the bell and telemetry, tho I do mount it slightly differently as I use a '4 point' mounting to stop it flipping up and to lessen the chance of a bent deck feather.... Works for me.

on my Harris i use a tail bell only. i whistle myself for the bird but i also use a ref whistle when it is really windy (because the noise travels further). the ref whistle i use does not have a pee in it. the only reason i use it because when i use to work a dog i use a dog whistle and i found that the dog and bird learned very quickly the different sounds

hi chap, with my FHH i use a 12 1/2 dog whistle. start the training at the creance step, as the fist goes up i use two short sharp blasts of the whistle it doesn't take long for them to get the hang. Would suggest you use it EVERY time your call the bird in just to instill it. As the boys say it's constant and works!!
I mount her bell on her tail as they can't help but to wag them. It doesn't seem to hinder her catching abilities.
