According to the latest Defra advice sheet, falconers should "avoid flying their birds at live prey in the wild"...
Anybody know of any decent flying ground well stocked with dead prey???
Incidently, the above advice is also endorsed by the Hawk Board.

when did this happen mate? so i take it their now wanting us to just fly our bird for excercise puposes?..... or go out the nigh before and fling a few dead rabbits and birds about the place for her to 'find' the next day lol.

won't be able to help it if my bird 'accidentally' kills when i'm only excercising her hehe

Info is in a letter just sent out by DEFRA to all registered bird keepers.

Got mine in the post this morning but we had to stop hunting a while back as we had birds in Quarantine so we are now just manning Imprints and getting the chambers ready for the breeding season

this is the first i've heard about it. thought defra were only banning stuff till the end of december. there hasn't been any news on bird flu since their first knee jerk reaction.

did the letter say anything else about what's going on or reasons for this?

Hi this is a fact sheet that gives warnings there is no ban on hunting only hunting in groups without a specific licence they warn about not hunting Waterfowl as they are high risk species. The rest of it is commonsense reminders. I think all keepers registered with DEFRA will receive this today or tomorrow and it has been endorsed by the Hawk Board
The UK is at present on a low risk status for AI but this would change imediatley if a case of AI were found in the UK. The warning about not flying/Hunting Ducks in this case is sound advice
