Why not try to work it out yourself then, the problem with giving an opinion on here tends to result in being branded an "expert" - that and being verbally abused :(

i'm a beginner and will probably count myself as one for many a year to come i have been hawking for three seasons now and looked forward to reading some interesting comments on this thread but as someone has mentioned its turned out to be a bit of a fight club whats wrong with you all can't we just compare "NOTES" amicably (who's right who's wrong !!!!!) lets listen to each other and grow in the sport .....................from a beginner who want's this forum to "AID" his falconry skils not hinder.

i am never gonna point the finger at any one on this forum when i comment i will just be generalising i hope this will be ok with you all as there is enough one on one going on and i wish not to be a part of it senior members should be leading by example in my view help each other to help others me i love a pint and a chat up my local club but nobody in my club fly's birds this is why i joined this forum.... to talk to people with the same interest as me and to learn from you all and maybe just maybe share some of my knowledge gained in the field............ don't let the forum down guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jay - sadly you will always have to sort the wheat from the chaff on these sorts of forums.

Oh and 'senior member' does not refer to the persons experience in falconry, just how many posts they have made....infer into that what you will....

As for Stewigan and Ben C - they are just plaaayying

You never stop being a beginner. I know people can call them self professional falconers (i do because i get payed for what i do) and some people (in the UK) even call themselves experts. but in my mind every bird is different and a new challenge and every bird you learn something different so you are always learning just like a beginner. One good thing about falconry is that you are always learning.

nice one flying high thats what i meant really i'm learning with this forum too as you said all birds are diff therefore we learn with each one it/falconry is therfore a great continuous circle with each new bird you train, my biggest buzz has been eating of the fist, jumping to the fist, flying to the fist, flying free, hitting the lure, entering yes the whole process each phase is a great moment in its own right i love to sit in the mew on those rainy wet mornings when you can't get out and read my diary i "buzz" each scentence..............

You have hit it on the head (for me) i love doing that, that is my fav bit of working with birds. i love getting new or rescue birds in due to the fact it is a challenge. That it one reason i so love falconry and are trying to keep it going (just like all of use). i would be lost of i did not have my birds.

flying high keep rocking the same boat mate i love the training side of things more than or probably just as much as the hunting side of things its great that feeling you get when each process of manning hit's home as long as we all have the same views or there abouts cos as long as the manning is done right an hey there may be those with reverse feelings that just cant wait for the hunting side of things and who would blame them good balance and happy healthy birds is what its all about yes/no got to go to bed now to many fosters and work at 8............................................ good night

surely its quite simple, a beginner stops being a beginner after training their 1st bird? coz theive begun. then they are a newcommer or a novice or an inexperienced falconer i think a harder question is when dos some one become an expert?

Stephen
