from my extemely limited experience and from seeing freinds pens as well as from what ive read i think its important not to be to big so you remain in the birds "personal space"while your in there interacting with them, but obviously enough room for limited exercise. try asking billy casper, falcons7,falcon mews or kentish falconry all on this site as i know they will have some good advice.

i was thinking something like an 8'x8' for the female peregrine ive actually been down to Kentish falconry a couple of years ago and picked up a caracara for a guy up here i seem to remember Terrys pens being a little larger than that any advice mate? what kind of sizes do you recommend open or enclose roof?

I use 8' by 10', what youve got to remember is that there has to be space for the youngsters aswell. If you want to see some before you build pm me and come over and see my pens. I am using ten falcons for AI.

Hi Yes, some and I mean some of my AI pens are larger I use 10 x 7 ft by 8 ft high for my Gyr Falcons but I use 6ft 6inchs x 9 x 8 for other birds such as Peregrines.
I am a firm beliver that you should be right in the birds face when interacting with them. I don't worry too much about the AI birds rearing too much as I also keep about 38 natural pairs and although I normally start young chicks off under Imprints I quickly move them to seclusion pens as soon as the rings are fitted, as I can not afford to have even the slightest Imprint traites in my birds, they do not go down well in the Gulf. At the end of the season I normally let my Imprints rear a few chicks to Hard pen but do not interact with them from the point the chicks go into the scrape and they are removed from the rearing chambers at about 45 days old and put into the Hack Pens.

Ps See you Tuesday White Gyr unfortunatley Minty can't make it now so it's just us.
