My friend is training a female peregrine with two dropped alulas. Our center has a FHH with dropped alulas and she seems to fly fine, but then she's a buteo and flys relatively slowly. Has anyone had any experience flying birds (particularly falcons) with dropped alulas? Does it affect the flight? If you see a bird has dropped alulas when it's still a chick, is there anything you can do about it?

Just dont live with it. Cast the bird and tape the alula into the correct position leave this tape in position for approximately five days. Micro pour tape used widely by vets in the UK is great. After the alotted time remove and check for positioning. If necessary repeat the process. Hey presto fixed alula. Used this method on adult and young birds.

Why do they drop?

The normal cause is a low speed impact during the period of fledge too full flight capability. I had two very active youngsters have severly dropped alula this season both fixed.
