The mesh surrounding my mews is a tough wire mesh so it needs to be protected from the bird on the insides.
Bamboo poles is an option about 1 foot away from the mesh.

Any other ideas?

Stretch soft green mesh inside the hard wire. Obtainable from builders yards, stops rubble falling from scaffolding. Have used for years without issue.

Netlon, the fine strong nylon mesh sold in garden centres as wind breaks etc. "looks a bit like the carrot mesh sacks" but in green. Stretch it tight with staples and it works fine and is cheap enough, I add a door curtain to stop escape when I go in. Bars are the best in the long run, but you have to get the space correct and they can work out expensive if you have large areas to do.

the mesh i use on the roofs of all my breeding pens is green nylon north sea fishing net available from the local fish quay, reasonably priced and lasts for years.

Sounds like i will put the green mesh inside the wire stuff for double protection against vermin.
