I have flown golden eagles and peregrines and am currently flying a FRT!
If my finances would allow me I would love to have a go at a mountain hawk eagle a friend of mine flew a changeable hawk eagle a while back and it was absolutely rapid taking pheasants, ducks on the wing aswell as hares and rabbits.

Wouldnt bother with a male Steppes mate you dont get much back for the time spent in regards to quarry. A female tawny would catch more. Better stilll sweet talk the missus and get a Golden!

The male goldie i used to fly was fantastic to watch! Long distace slips from the top of hills where i flew it in the borders onto hares crossing the flats at the foot of the hill

We used an old starter motor from a car and hooked it up to a battery!
The spool on this device we used contained about 300yrds of line onto which the dummy was attached! the dummy was placed in cover at th top of the hill and motorised down hill for the eagle to fly at! Great fun!

I just use the vehicle it goes where ever and can make the lure carcass vary its path. Its a V8 Discovery so keeping the eagle moving quickly aint too much of a problem. Im quite interested in a tawny as I cant afford what I realy want, but there you go!

That was about my estimation!
There were two advertised recently on the ibr and one in cage and aviary!
3-4 grand!1-2 yrs
I favour the social imprint approach though
in my oppinion i would steer clear of the 1-2 year olds advertised and go for the imprinting option so i know what im getting

i dont know i suppose when you used to seeing birds being sold for between 250 and 2000 it does become a little shock but i have never thought of it before but at the same time im glad there not any cheaper, my friend is on about wanting one next year but never asked him what they were cost wise.

Your starting too sound earily like me! Although my male is a social that is older than that. See Imprint Golden eagle thread in eagle forum.

how do you find your imp goldie and do you think the same attributes would come from imp tawny

So I dont repeat too much see my thread on eagle forum, should tell you a lot more theres even pictures! An imprint tawny would react differently, very differently, Ive flown them before. I have a PR one and shes fine, and I dont hunt her.

Yes i did read it! Highly interesting and very informative! The eagle i used to fly belonged to the keeper i worked with at the time! i payed him a visit last night and he said that if i wanted i could take it and hunt with it! I went out to see him(eagle) and i swear he remembers me! Believe it or not that was the first bird i learnt to fly and it has done me no harm what so ever! It was a case of `here keep a hold of this' i was only 16-17 from then it developed into me manning the bird up and being at the top of the hill with the eagle on fist! quite an experience for a 16 year old! I work as a lecturer in gamekeeping and wildlife management now at borders college in scotland and he is located about 10 mile away from me. the offer is there and i think i will take him up on it!

Good god can I see the core of a Falconry Forum Golden eagle field meet for 06. We certainly could muster enough beaters out of this lot!

Go PR route they bond realy well anyway and you would only make them worse to handle by imprinting. There less hectic as PR and aint going too pile into you at every opportunity.

Lets do it would be good fun, and allow some poeple who have never seen them flown too get in on the action.

think its a bad idea as soon as i see a goldie hunt and kill we all know i wont be able to resist and three grand can suddenly seem like small change

What weight is the bird currently going at?
I think forgive me if im wrong i used to fly this one around the 7lb mark( might be miles of??)
Flying him again is too good of a chance to pass up !
Eagle it is then!!!!!!!

I still remember my first hare with the bird!
The hare broke out of a plough field and the eagle was up a tree after previously missing a flushed hare!
The hare ran under the tree the eagle was in and it just dropped out of the tree onto it!
not the most glamorous of pursuits but you take what your given!!

Suppose i will have to invest in some new leather now then!
What do you favour K?
I was looking at a glove on the web called excalibur
Three layer
cushioned inner, with Kevlar in the middle and the traditional hide on top.
Impenatrable allegedly!

Im going to be getting my first bird (Fhh), hopefully, in June. My plan is to use the time from, well from the time i started getting into falconry about 10years ago, until then to read and re-read as much as i can and carry on going out with my mate and get shown as much as i can. My college course finishes in June so i will have the whole of the summer to man and train the bird up. With the job im aiming to get aswell i will still be able to fly the bird regulary and hopefully have plenty of land to fly her over :)

I am thinking of looking into the accipiters, but not to fly them for now, just to set them up as a future breeding pair.
Have looked at coops a lot, and have found some breeders.
maybe, don´t know yet, maybe just stik with what I got. HH
cheers,
Rasmus
