What me and Aquila are looking at doing, is getting together mid too late January. The venue will be lowland Scotland, and the prey there is Hare. We will need a good amount of beaters as the country is very open. Though hare numbers I am informed are high. Arrangements will be made between myself and Aquila as too a date after christmas. Anyone interested please post here and or PM me. Anyone else out there with a hunting eagle PM me if your interested in attending and I will talk too Aquila.

Can you clarify how many not eagle-flying attendees i.e. spectators you will allow.

With regard to anyone else flying eagles I'm not sure if there are any more UK eagle guys on here.

how will you be flying the eagles?off the fist or waiting on?

Game & Pursuit Falcon UK
23-12-2005, 10:37 PM
We will be flying off the fist, but in open terrain walking ridges with vast valleys laid out below us. So some spectacular long slips should ensue. Numbers wise the more beaters the better realy. I geuss that there will be no more than twenty though, once the day actually happens.

Don't forget there is already an annual eagle meeting in Scotland. This year is January 28th to February 4th. Location: Grampian Mountains. Quarry: White Hare, Flight style: almost exclusively waiting on flights. So far six eagles booked to attend. Some dropped out due to avian flu, but as is required an exemption licence has been obtained and some former drop outs are expected to rejoin. If any eagle falconers wish to attend, mail me.

Sorry, I repeated myself there after messing up my first post submission. No, I'll put it on later today. Attendance is up. Through the week we now have three golden eagles, two verreaux eagles, one bonnellis eagle, one chillean blue eagle, one tawny eagle and I am hoping on confirmation of one martial eagle. I'll keep you all posted.

Sounds really good Barry! Would you like me to organise you a professional photographer to record the event for the forum?

Barry what sort of cost involved to spectate or fly

A photographer for a record for the forum would be great. Visit Scotland are along recording the event for TV this year too. Fees for eaglers is officially nil, but folk normally throw a few quid in the pot for the use of the hill. We keep spectating guest numbers quite low simply because of the nature of the event, and the terrain - Very steep and very high, we start each day at 3,500 above sea level at the top of a munroe. Anyone who is interested we can consider but they will need a capable 4x4!

Barry

Hawkmaster,

Any more thoughts on the photographer for the Gathering of Eagles 2006? I am collating names of attendees to send to the Local Veterinary Office as is required in the conditions for the General Licence required for a bird gathering under new avian flu related legislation.

Any other intertested parties either with or without eagles should contact me and confirm ASAP.

Hybred, do you mean the thing in the borders with K & Aquila or do you mean the Gathering of Eagles in the Grampians? The Gathering of Eagles is still on, on the original dates January 28th to February 4th. You will need to check with K & Aquila for the other one, but I know K has been struggling to reach Aquila to firm up details of the Borders meet.

Just to clarify the situation. Unfortunately the eagle meet sceduled for this weekend has not come to fruition. I can only apologise on my behalf, and wish people hadnt been let down. This week is to be my last flying my eagle this season and was planning to end it on a high in Scotland. Im sure Aquila will post at some point and clarify why?

Barry

Hi K.

Shame. Is it not possible for you to extend your eagle for a couple of weeks for the Gathering of Eagles?

I wish i could mate but I need to get him into a pen for the A.I. season A.S.A.P. . As the first egg is usually the start of Febuary so time is pressing. I have to put the breeding side before the flying unfortunately.
