The swivel and leash is what may get it back sooner, because when they get caught up the crows start mobbing, so keep an eye out.
Has he let the local radio station know? That always works?
Good Luck!

First off, I wish u good luck for the birds sake.
Just out of interest do u know what material the leash was made from? in the past i have made leashes from different commercialy available ropes ect and have threw several away becuase of how they hold a good knot!
Maybe a very costly lesson learnt!

wasn't the material the leash was made from Chris, it was the knot.
he canny have tied a double falconers knot mate. not even a harris can undo a doubled falconers knot tied correctly.
if this was the case i would have sent him some really good leashes for free.
just hope he has got it back, its been a wee while now.

the harris hawk has been known to unpick falconry knotts ,thats why new leashes were brought out so knotts didnt have to be tied which could be undone by hawks, think how many hours a harris sits tied to a bow perch and has a pick at its leash or jesses ,one day its going to get lucky and undo them ???

Just been watching my MHH and being a un-trained youngster constantly puts the leash under stress . I do not think at present he is concerned with picking it but only in hoping it gives way.
Now i know why you must use a Falconers Knot, Ok you could use a Granny but you try un-doing it from a Youngster that has baited for an hour!

Have you been? Or is this what you think could happen if you were struggling to untie a difficult tight knot?

The Latter, as i know a guy it has just happened too who did not no how to tie one and he struggled to un-tie it and has a face scar to proove it.
I know how to tie one and have showed him but it falls on deaf ears and why?............Well because he has had his bird since August and what do i know!!!
His funeral!..........Or his Face in this case:roll:

I only mention it because the hawk should still be secured on the fist with your fist resting on top of the bow perch, therefore a hawk should never be able to foot you in the face when untying the leash.
If the knot in the leash is so tight, you should get somebody else to untie it with two hands whilst you hold the hawk.
Just a wee pointer. :D
