View Full Version : XLF 3 volt problem
I bought a used L&L XLF 3 volt transmitter and a F&L MN 10 reciver. The problem is that when I turn on the transmitter even with new batteries I get a good signal at first the the signal starts to get weaker with every beep until there is no beep at all. What do you think the problem is? I am thinking it is the amp or the crystal, but a man in our club said it could be the antenna. I plan on having the tranmitter rebuilt during the off season as I have a Merlin Systems 1/3N FMV coming in some time this week.
Also, what is your opinion about the transmitters and reciver I have?
Thanks
Josh

I have seen this before but please check your batteries first, make sure you are using Silver Oxide and not Zinc Oxcide button cells the Zinc type look the same but they have to have an air flow around them to function when you screw the cap on it cuts off the air supply and the transmitter works for a short period and then cuts out whenyou remove the tranny lid and replace it the tranny works fine again. This may not be the answer but it does sound like it is
Best of luck

Yes, I have seen it too, change the battery type as said above. Only buy good quality batteries.

Yeah, it might be the battery... I use 5 or 6 Luksander's transmitters, most of them without antena, and they work fine!!
I am using the Silver Oxide batteries. I will send it in to have it rebuilt during to off season when I send my reciver in to have it tested and tuned.
Thanks for the replys

Josh,
Does your MN-10 have a pre-amp? It is a little extra box that the cable from the Yagi fits into. Some MN-10's were equiped with them. They have batteries too. Does the static go away as well, or is it just the beep? If it is both it is prolly the battieres in the receiver. Also check your transmitter with someone elses receiver to be sure.

which batteries are you using in the transmitter, if the crystal has gone it wont work at all, the aerial shouldnt give the problem you describe. Luksander are very specific as to the batteries you have to use, even down to manufacture. Give them a ring or email they will probably help as a service on a transmitter isn't usual, they are sealed and either work or dont, and a new crystal is as expensive as new transmitter. Also as stated above check your reciever with some one elses transmitter if you can, MN10 will pick up almost any make of transmitter using around that frequency.
