just got back from a good day out with the birds. went down to fly at my mates place. we flew bobs 05 tiercel peri flushed some teal off a pit but he decided to go for a hen pheasant that didnt give it the best of pitches, it ended up a tail chase and the phes made the wood then a wild female peri buzzed the tiercel. next we got the female goss out and went and did a bit with the ferret, the first one to bolt got to the next burrow cos soft arse here had the gos tucked under his coat trying to keep the snow off her:oops: . the next one tried a different escape and ended in the bag, but the gos was wet through so we went back for dinner. after dinner we tried the peri again we flushed another pond and 80 teal got off again the peri went for a partridge this time and failed to connect again, bob was happy though just to get a flush for him. we swapped the falcon for the tiercil gos, the snow was getting worse so i walked with him under my coat accross to a big pond surrounded by tall trees, as we aproached a hen pheasant burst from some brambles and headed accross the pond, kye was off like a flash he caught up to it 30 yards accross the pond and knocked it into the water, then he went vertical rolled over and dropped onto it ten yards out from the far bank. dale and bob were laughing their heads of thinking of me going for a wade, after a couple of minutes kye flapped to the bank with a drowned pheasant. so i let him feed up on the warm flesh. back home i fed him a bit more and dried the little rascal off with the hair drier wich he loved.

Hello GosFlyer,
Nearly every time out we end up with a gos in the water as nearly all my flying is on land with small rivers, ponds, streams and ditches - after a season or so they will bind over water and row to "shore" with their quarry. It is a pain if it misses and gets wet and puts an end to the day in winter, especially if your far away from the car and can't dry it off on the vents.

Today she was in a ditch full of water attemting to take out a teal, wet feathers completely but still managed to take a rabbit on the way back to the car.

Jim.
