Try Phillip Glasier's book "Falconry and hawking" for a basic pattern.
However, I tried this pattern and didnt like how it turned out - maybe because it was my first one. My advice is to find a glove you like and make a pattern from it yourself - you learn a lot just by really examining a glove thats already made. I made one in the likeness of a Northwoods glove - came out great!
lol the reason that i asked for a pattern is becuase i didnt like the one in that book! ill try it later though! can u post pics on how it turned out?

I got a friends old glove and ripped it apart and took a pattern of it and changed it abit. Now on my 10th glove as selling them to friends and doing different sizes too right down to 6yrs old. Its not that we are cheap skates cause the leather costs more than a glove but cause we didn't like the quality or leather that they used.

id rip a glove apart, if anyone near me had a glove i could lol. and i didnt say you where cheap skates. i thnk its more fun making your own equipment, from scratch basicly. i plan to use elk hide. does anyone know what oz? 2-3 is what im thinking.

how much would the leather cost either in hide or to make a single glove from scratch, would love to have a go lol. Where's a good place to get quality leather from?

I made my pattern without ripping the Northwoods one apart - just takes a little longer and a little more examination.
Hannah, I used glove-tan leather and the leather for it cost me about 30 dollars. Though I dont know if thats good enough for hawks - I havent tried it yet - but its the same stuff that is used for work gloves apparently.

we use 4-5oz and thats good all round we mainly use it on HH but also on RT, EEO, and common buzzard. My friend has actually had his steppes on his but thats his preferance. 4-5 oz gives you the feel that you want so that you can tell you how your bird is feeling but it really protects your hands. Great stuff and shouldn't go stiff when wet. We use mink oil to keep them waterproofed and supple really brilliant gloves.
The elk also keeps your hands warm in the winter weather. No cold numb hands like wearing wolly gloves even in minus temperatures. Jakki

With postage to the uk it works out at about £40 in leather, then you need a cast closed brass d ring. Linen thread is best. Beeswax to run over the thread and awl to puncher the leather and a stitch wheel to mark your stitches, I use the 6 stitches to the inch. It takes me about 2 to 2 and half days to make a glove from scratch.
The leather I import from sellers on the internet normally from the usa but you can get some from norway I believe. Good luck Jakki

i make my own gloves from a slightly modified glazier pattern and they are allright but not proffessional quality finish, ask flame haired falconer on this site she makes beautifull gloves and could tell you were to get the best hides and everything. i recently bought an industrial leather sewing machine for £50 cant wait to get the time to try it out, bags vests etc, good luck.

and thanks for the patterns, and i was thnking like, the main glove be. 2-3 oz Elk hide, and then the reinforced thumb and finger layer that u add on be like 3-4 oz??
