kye got his tail fixed, the three bust feathers in the middle of his tail have been fixed today, i cut them last night and while he was feeding on his lure tonight i glued them in. they where off one of my old goshawks kept out of the moulting aviary, they are probably five year old but i new they would come in eventualy. the only thing i could have done with was some carbon fibre save cutting old fishing rods up. does anyone sell such things for imping.

For Imping, I find that useing Bamboo skewers works out best. They are flexible and are cheap to obtain. I have imped 50-60 feathers including several complete Kestrel wings and tails for a local rehabber.... I use a dremel tool to shave down the bamboo shaft until it slides into the shaft about 1 inch and add a small drop of epoxy.
For imping needles I use harris hawk feather shafts. They are stiffer than most shafts, yet very strong and light.
mick somebodys taught you well, that imping looks good mate...

imping looks so hard to do
I heard of a female redtail that was been impted, all was goin perfectly and at the last minute it jerked and got the new feather sticking out at 90 degrees. Lasted for a chunk of the hunting season

sounds excellent :D , just the thought of training a hawk as a beginner and waiting for the first hunt and suddenly it looses the tail feathers, that would be heartbreaking
