I was recently invited out for a days hawking in weardale. My mate glen was organising it (aka sandmoor). The day started with us meeting just off the A19 in teeside. We made our way up to weardale which is about 45 mins drive.
The land we were flying on looked great for rabbits and I couldnt wait to get my bird out.there was 4 of us hawking ,myself shuan and dave all flying FHH
and Kieth flying a saker . Glen and Terry were ferreting. We made our way up the side of the valley to the first setts .Shaun soon had his first in the bag after a good flite and the day was looking good.I got my first soon after as we both slipped our birds at the same rabbit (it was my slip) Shaun thought i hadnt seen it bolt (they dont call me kessie for nothing, ive got eyes like a hawk) Both hawks were right on its ars when Shauns bird struck at it and lifted it about a foot into the air before droping it for my bird to grab (thanks Shaun).WE moved a bit further up the valley and found some more setts which were away from cover .The rabbits were bolting really well ,we had some great long flites and before long i had another 2 in the bag.
Shaun bagged another 2 and Dave got 1 before feeding there birds up.
I was beng greedy and wanted 1 more as it was only mid afternoon. It wasnt
long before she got one which was good 50 yard flite. Kieth was putting his falcon up every now and again hoping the dogs would flush a pheasant but there wasnt any aboute. It was a great day out enjoyed by everyone( thanks Kieth) the day was rounded off with Kieth flying his steppe eagle
that he is just training. I LOVE HAWKING ME  :-D
