does anyone have any tips regarding suitable leather thickness for different uses?
i.e. Best thickness for bewits, Best thickness for jesses, hoods etc? Best thickness for anklets?

I've seen different leathers for sale ranging from about 0.9mm - 1.5mm. Also, is Kangaroo really the best? I did know one guy that brought old ladies leather hand-b ags at car boots and found them satisfactory.

All advice appreciated!

Hello Moses,
I know you mean well but you haven't used this leather on any hawk yet so your advice may not be quite correct.

All leather needs testing for strength before use and different thickness's are needed for different hawks. Kangeroo if decent quality is very good but poor quality kangeroo is worse than ordinary leather.

What hawk is the leather for ?

No need for sorry Moses, but sometimes it appears that people are giving advice on subjects without any experience - this then later results in the "sh$t hitting the fan".

All the best Jim.

Hi lasher have you tried www.abbeysaddlery.co.uk
They do alsorts of leather.
I currently use horse hide which i get from a friend it is quite thick and is very strong but is very soft to the touch.
Excellent quality and not as dear as kangaroo, the other which i use is deer hide another quality product. Dont worry about the thickness its the strengh you want.
As i said abby saddlery have deer hides and cow calf etc and is very cheap they sell all the leather work equipment and have a container full at the back of the ware house.
Hope this helps.
