Question How wide of a field jess would fit a 4.5 mm eyelet without being too tight?

I've already made the braided mews jesses, and the anklets, but I don't really know the size of the jesses. If they're 5 mm wide, it's already very-very narrow, but it's still tight, and I don't want to bother him too much when changing jesses.

How much of a bad idea would it be if I used braided jesses without the slits as field jesses?

I don't really want to use leather jesses (with a pin hole) all the time, because I don't have kangaroo leather at the moment, and so far my experience with calf skin showed that it isn't that trustworthy. It's fine for anklets, but not so much for jesses.
