Hopefully it doesn't cut into your season too much. It looks like there are plenty of Rabbits about this year although I know their numbers could change by the time the season comes around. Fingers crossed that quarry numbers stay up so you can have a better season this time.

Have now got the new ferrets for this season both albino, a hob who I purchased locally his parents are small so hopefully he won't be too big and I can work him but the main reason for getting him is to have him vasectomised and a jill courtesy of Alex Brown. She's a funny one sleeps through everything and anywhere.

That Gill is lovely Mick, Ferrets are great, hope you have a good season Mick, how is the Rabbit population looking round your way? Numbers seem to have picked up well around here, fingers crossed that some remain disease free for the Winter.

I'm really pleased with them both, I've started to see a few young around these last couple of weeks but no great numbers.
Hopefully we will all have a better year.

Hello Mick

Looking forward to your reports of Archie this season.

Good luck with the Ferrets. Surely they have got to help you get some flights this winter.

Regards Terry

Hi Terry,
We are not off to very good start I'm afraid. Archie's tail is still not fully down and from what I can tell he has not dropped a single primary, I have not found any feathers on the ground and as he does not normally destroy his dropped feathers it seems odd. I plan to catch him up next week to get a better look at him.
I'm back to one ferret as the new jill had a strange sleep dis-order (Dead Ferret Sleep).
Working on some new permission which hopefully give us more opportunities.
I'll post a picture once I've got him next week.

Season 10:
I reclaimed Archie on the 7th October and confirmed my fear that he had not had a complete moult.
I have reviewed all my notes and do not really understand what I have done wrong but clearly I have not got it right.
He has manned down relatively quickly and should be off the creance Friday with a view to hunting sunday.
Thanks to Nigel who once again assisted me in getting him ready with new kit, cope and tailmount.

Rabbit numbers are looking poor but we have a few leads on new land and hopefully we can have a more challenging season for him.

Hello Mick

Glad your back at it.

Maybe the incomplete moult is age related. Seems unusual if all other are unchanged. Bright pen and good feeding.

Don't suppose it will affect matters much with the flying and hunting with him.

I wish you the best of luck.

Please post all hunting exploits.

It's good honest falconry.

Regards Terry
